A Sainsbury in London pulled kosher food from the shelf because they were intimidated into doing so. This is a textbook case of anti-Semitism. Kosher food is Jewish food and has nothing to do with Gaza. Rather than give into thugs, Sainsbury should have called the police and not become party to bigotry. Did they pull hallal food because of ISIS? I doubt it. They let the bigots win. If they are angry with Netanyahu, there is no reason to punish British Jews. Unless there is a apology forthcoming, it is time to discuss a counter-boycott, if not prosecution under the UK Race Relations Act.
Stephen Walt is at it again: conspiracy theories about "the lobby." He refers to Israel's "ethnic cleaning" of Palestinians in 1967. Really, professor? Where? Which villages? Could you name one individual who was "ethnically cleansed" in 1967? Now you are just making things up. Best part: he calls "Jewish Voice for Peace," a "pro-Israel" group. Check their twitter feed: I couldn't find a single expression of even grudging commiseration with anybody in Israel over rocket attacks-only blame. http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/5607883 In a recent Facebook posting, author Peter Beinart wrote: The Photo of Mean Settlers Taunting a Palestinian Woman Terrible photo! Mean looking "settlers" taunting a Palestinian woman. Don't you want to hate those cruel settlers? But the picture is a fake. Look closely. The shadows below the young men fall farther to the left than the shadow from the women's kerchief. This is a composite of two photos taken in different places. The object is to instill hatred. I have seen this photo several times. The first time it was labeled "settlers taunt a Palestinian woman who's home was bulldozed." The second was in the context of an article criticizing Jews for praying on the Temple Mount. Guess what?--there are no shops on the Temple Mount. Tell you what, Ken Roth, if you don't tell the IDF how to defend Israel, the IDF won't tell you how to be an opinionated, sanctimonious twit. Deal? By the way, don't think I can't see through the organizational dynamics of "Human Rights Watch." All non profit directors are concerned about the opinions of their boards and keep an eye on the "bottom line." Agendas are steered to please the donors. They do what is popular and, in the case of HRW, that means doing what is politically correct. The mission of the group be damned, "the bottom line" is the real bottom line. Yet another "Gaza" picture intended to incite. 1.Those aren't Israeli weapons. 2. The IDF doesn't wear sandals in combat. 3. The kid is wearing winter clothes, and it is *hot* in Gaza in July. 4. IDF ground troops have not yet entered Gaza. Anybody who believes this sort of thing is probably predisposed to believing it- in other words, prejudiced. This is the sort of incitement is being circulated by people who are partisans is no surprise - but it is being retweeted by persons purporting to be "peace activists." This is hate mongering. The IDF has scored 1800 hits. This has resulted in 170 deaths. The ratio between deadly fire and actual deaths is probably the lowest in the annals of warfare. (Would that medical surgery be so effective.) Yet propagandists, busy retweeting old photos from Syria and misrepresenting them as from Gaza, say Israel is committing "genocide." Anyone misusing the term "genocide" regarding Gaza and the Palestinians is distorting a tragedy beyond recognition, abusing the term and engaging in incitement. This is yet another example of supporters of various "national liberation" movements hijacking the human rights agenda for political gain. This is hate speech. There are civilian casualties in Gaza. That is tragic. But Hamas, which has no scruples about targeting Israeli civilians, is entirely responsible. It is a war crime both to target civilians and also to launch rockets from civilian centers. And if one is looking for evidence of genocidal intent, one need look no farther than the Hamas Charter, in which the organization declares its intention is to kill all Jews everywhere. 1800 airstrikes/170 deaths in densely populated Gaza. It is likely that your surgeon has a much higher kill rate for each operation. Rather than calling this "genocide," how about nominating the Israel Air Force for a Nobel Peace Prize for its remarkable success, precision and professionalism in avoiding civilian casualties? The Presbyterian Church (USA) Is actually *boasting* that they collected $13,500 at their General Assembly in Detroit last month. This chump change is intended to benefit the city of Detroit ... and also the whole world. You can't buy a while lot for that kind of money. Not for a city the size of Detroit or a planet the size of earth. Are they serious? Since they were in Detroit, they might want to reflect that one can't even buy one decent used car for $13,500. But they are proud - and even issued a press release. Really. Historically, the denomination has been home to much of the privileged element. Nevertheless, the PCUSA has been in free fall - losing almost a third of its membership since 2000. Yes, money matters. It is a concrete indication of how serious people are. How much, one wonders, did the thousands of delegates to the GA spend on their own lunches? If the delegates show such paltry generosity, what does it say about their commitment to the church mission? http://www.pcusa.org/news/2014/7/11/general-assembly-offering-yields-13500-ministries-/ I saw a car that appeared to be held together by bumper stickers. My, we do have our little opinions, don't we? Truth is, I agreed with all of the opinions expressed. But that is beside the point. There was an implied disrespect for the opinion of others that displayed an breathtaking self-righteousness and lack of humility. Sometimes our opponents might have a point. Sometimes we should listen. Sometimes, [gasp] we might be wrong. |
