While at the 221st General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church USA in Detroit, I learned how to talk "Presbyterian"
Here is a glossary I complied which may be of assistance to the uninitiated.
A chair is a moderator
An executive director is a stated clerk
A delegate is a commissioner.
A convention is a General Assembly
A resolution is an overture
A discussion is a discernment process
A young leader is an elder (church politics clearly ages them).
A person who went on a five day mission is a Middle East exert.
An activist who advocates for divestment is a paid, "neutral" professional staff member of the PCUSA, who is there to be helpful in the "discernment process."
The independent IPMN, which "speaks to the church but not for it,"
is a 501(c)(3) recipient of church charity and it totally dependent on the PCUSA.
A member of Jewish Voice for Peace who says the occupation isn't kosher doesn't eat kosher.
A member of the JVP rabbinic group isn't a rabbi.
