Israel is good for the Jews - the Chief Rabbinate of Israel is not. Israel is central in Jewish life. The Chief Rabbinate of Israel is marginal.
Although we acknowledge the centrality of Israel in Jewish life, the Chief Rabbinate of Israel does not share that centrality or importance. It isn't a Jewish Vatican and there is no Jewish pope. It's authority hardly impacts on diaspora Jewry, where its influence is marginal at best and it is not widely respected even within Israel. In Israel, its authority is not recognized by those to its right, those to its left (this constitutes a very high percentage of the population) nor by diaspora Jewry in general, including the Orthodox. I'd suggest ignoring it altogether, except that it IS acknowledged by the state authorities - and that IS a problem.
