I'm a big fan of Gatestone, but while appreciating the thrust of this article, I think it falls short of reasonable standards. Where is the UCC synod? Unless I am missing something, that information isn't given. Further, about half of this article is about the Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion. People need to know about the Protocols, of course, but is this a history lesson? I'd prefer to have more info about the UCC its background theology and governance.
I attended the June PCUSA conference in Detroit where divestment was passed - exactly one year before the upcoming UCC synod. Analysis is needed much more than rehashing of the Protocols - which is hardly relevant. Further, the Protocols are an example of fantastic and crude antisemitism used by people who would openly and proudly call themselves anti-Semites. While antisemitism is certainly a factor in the divestment movement, it would never succeed if not embraced by people who do not have the self perception as prejudiced people. These are liberals. One of the tragedies of the church divestment movement is that many of its supporters genuinely think that they are well disposed toward Jews in general and might even think of themselves as supporters of Israel, just critical of certain policies. Better to spend column inches on analysis of how radical activists can manipulate a system, prey on the credulity of good people and what we might be able to do to counter it.
