The Soda Stream Boycott and the United Methodist Church
Have you seen any indication that the General Board for Church and Society intends to lift the Soda Stream boycott now that the factory has been removed from the West Bank? I haven't. The original resolution said that the boycott would continue as long as the factory was on territory they regard to be illegally held by Israel. Now that this objection no longer applies, it would be bad faith to continue the boycott and it behooves the board to announce its end. I don't see that this has happened.
The BDS movement has announced that it is continuing the Soda Stream boycott - because the new factory is allegedly on Bedouin land within Israel.
Although the board had said that this boycott was not part of the BDS movement, there were links to BDS web sites on their page.
Does the board intend to honor its promise to lift the boycott, and if not, why not? Can we have an explanation?
I wrote an email to them asking for clarification - is the boycott continuing? - but received no reply.
