An experienced public speaker knows that he/she is not only responsible for what is said, but for how it is heard.
Henry II said "who will rid me of this troublesome priest?" and his loyal knights took that as a warrant to assassinate Thomas à Becket. That wasn't Henry's intention, but words have power.
I don't want to take this analogy too far. Henry apologized and did penance. Trump doesn't do either. Becket, who was murdered during prayer, became a saint. Hillary is unlikely to be caught praying and less likely to be canonized. St. Hillary doesn't resonate. Madam President does.
